Sharps Drop-Box Program

Curbside has developed a drop-box similar to a mail box.  This unit made of sturdy 12 gauge steel can be placed at a pharmacy, city hall, senior center, business or other location.  Residents can drop in to the box, any rigid, sealed container up to an including containers of approximately 1.5 gallons in size.  If permitted by local agencies, even loose sharps can be dropped in.  A 20 gallon regulated sharps container is inside the box to capture the waste dropped in.

It is not necessary to require residents to use the typical red sharps containers.  Many residents do not have access to them and have been using ordinary plastic bottles i.e., soda and soap bottles.  The large capacity of the box permits for longer collection periods.  If the location is in a high traffic area and the service period is short i.e., one week, our larger box can be used.

The box can be rented or purchased.  Aside from the rental of the box, a single fee is charged to service the box.  Unlike other firms who offer smaller boxes with long term contracts, Curbside's flexible programs are custom tailored.  You only pay for service when we service the box and the schedule is arranged and modified to meet the needs of our customers.  If a six week period is adequate, why would we require a four week period between services?  The key to this program is that the container is large and the service intervals are determined by need.  You never pay more than is necessary.

Curbside is working with the Orange County Pharmacists Association to implement the public-private partnership program which encourages pharmacies to accept sharps from the public.
